September has come to an end, so it’s time to share my October TBR! And for this month, I’m actually planning on doing something a little bit unconventional for me and not (fully) planning out my reading. This is especially abnormal for me because I enjoy picking out spooky books for the season, but I decided to go against that this month.
While I enjoy picking out spooky reads for my October TBR (and will likely read some anyway), I really just want to see what I’m in the mood for. I love planning and sticking to my TBR, but my mood has been fluctuating way too much recently to plan my reading around that. So this month, I’m going to read the ARCs I have planned and dedicate the rest to whatever strikes me at the moment from my physical TBR. It should be fun – I haven’t had a mood reading month in a long time!
So without further ado, here’s what I plan to read this month!
We Keep the Dead Close by Becky Cooper
This is the Feminist Book Club Pick for October. I’ve been slowly working my way back into true crime, and I do like to keep up with the books each month, so this is one I’d definitely like to read for my October TBR. I’m not too familiar with this case either, so that combined with the length of this book has me very curious.
A Face for Picasso by Ariel Henley
Thank you to FierceReads and NetGalley for the ARC! I read Ariel Henley’s piece in Disability Visibility earlier this year and it’s one of the most memorable of the collection for me, so when I saw Henley was publishing a memoir I knew I wanted to read it too.
Bad Girls Never Say Die by Jennifer Mathieu
Thank you to FierceReads for the ARC! I enjoyed reading Moxie several years ago, and I love the idea of this book being a feminist retelling of The Outsiders. I’ve actually read the first few chapters of this book already and was hooked, so I look forward to continuing it.
Under a Starlit Sky by E.M. Castellan
Thank you (one more time!) to FierceReads and NetGalley for the ARC! While I wasn’t totally in love with the first book, I do want to return to this setting and cozy up with historical fantasy, especially this time of year. I’m also curious to see how the story will progress from the last one!
Those are all of the books on my TBR for October! Let me know if you read any of these or plan to.

August 2021 Wrapup
With August over, it’s time to share my reading wrap-up. This past month, I read seven books. While this definitely is not a small number of books to have read, I think this is actually the least I’ve read in a month in a long time. I think this month really has been different for me in terms of where I had to set my priorities. Plus, I had to switch my medication, and the fatigue has been real. But with that aside, although I didn’t have any five-star reads this month, I did end up with plenty of four-star reads, and that’s really good too.
Starting this new medication has served as a sort of reset for me throughout August. I’ve been taking the time to really declutter every aspect of my life, not only physically but also mentally – so that I can make space for what really matters. I’ve also been thinking about how I want to take my career from here, which means that I’ve started studying for my next certification (and hope to take the exam this month!). This month has also been spent well with family and friends, which may have also been a contributing factor to less reading this month!
Anyway, here’s everything I read this month. I hope you found some great new books this month too!
September 2021 TBR
August has come to an end, so it's time to share my September TBR! I'm looking forward to the cooler weather and cozier days, and I think my TBR this month will reflect that because there are so many books on it. I don't know if it will really cool down that much in...
My Go-To Bookstagram Props
One of the most fun aspects of taking bookish pictures for me is experimenting with different ideas. There are so many ways to make a Bookstagram photo your own, using a variety of editing tools, backdrops, and of course, props! But at the end of the day, there’s always a few Bookstagram props I almost always rely on. So today I’m sharing some of my go-to Bookstagram props, plus some more seasonal ones, and where I found them. I hope this provides some inspiration for some of your Bookstagram pictures as well!
Bad Girls Never Say Die sounds very interesting. I like the idea of a feminist retelling of The Outsiders too.
It’s really good so far! I like the twist on it.
