We’re about a week into September and I’m enjoying all of my reads so far! I hope you’re finding some great books as well. Here’s my reading updates for this week:
Currently Reading:
Lie With Me by Philippe Besson; Translated by Molly Ringwald
Lie With Me follows Philippe, who encounters a man who looks strangely like his first love. The book continues into a recollection of his earlier years, and the hidden affair he’s had, and the relationship he will never forget.
This reminds me quite a bit of Tin Man. It’s a short book, but packed with so much emotion and intensity. I’m only halfway through it but it’s impacted me so much in such a short time.
On A Sunbeam by Tillie Walden
This graphic novel is set in space and follows a ship crew that focuses on re-building broken down structures and returning things to their past state. When Mia joins the crew, we learn of her year in a boarding school where she fell in love with a new student. Eventually, we find Mia’s true purpose of joining the crew is to find her long-lost love.
This is my first graphic novel in ten years! I haven’t gotten very far in it but I am liking it so far.
Boba by Stacey Kwong and Beyah del Mundo
Boba is written by the duo behind MILK+T, the first self-serve boba bar. This book teaches you all about how to make bubble tea, including how the tapioca pears are made. The founders also included recipes that they created at MILK+T.
I’ve never reviewed a recipe book before, but I saw this book on NetGalley and I couldn’t resist. I’ve always wanted to learn how bubble tea was made (the pearls specifically), and I’m having a lot of fun with this one! I’m going to try out a little more before writing a final review.
Recently Read:
Nobody Knows but You by Anica Mrose Rissi
Nobody Knows but You is a YA mystery/thriller that takes place at a summer camp. Kayla knows Lainie’s secrets – and best friends don’t share their secrets. None of this changes when someone is murdered at the end of summer. After all, the truth does not tell the whole story.
This was an interesting mystery! There were some elements that I wish were more fleshed out, but I felt like the twist of this one was just right.
Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo
When Camino Rios is supposed to meet his father at the airport in the Dominican Republic, she arrives to find out that he has passed in a plane crash. Meanwhile in New York, Yahaira Rios finds out of his father’s death when her mother meets her at the principal’s office at school. And while handling their grief, Camino and Yahaira learn of each other.
This was so good! I don’t usually read books in verse but this was a great fit for this book; I thought it captured the characters’ emotions and thought processes so well. There was so much to unpack with this book and I’m glad I finally read one of Acevedo’s books – I’m looking forward to reading her other books as well!
Up Next:
Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles
Where Dreams Descend is the first book in a duology. It follows a group of magicians facing off to determine who the next headliner of the Conquering Circus will be. Little do they know there is the threat of danger waiting for them.
I thought my hold for this book was going to be in last week, so that means it should be in this week, right? I’m really excited for this one. It sounds like it has all of the storytelling and writing elements that I’m looking for!
That’s all for this week’s WWW Wednesday. Leave a comment if you participated this week too so I can read your post – or let me know what you’re currently reading below!

Ah yes! I love book boxes now but I worry about not being caught up with them. I love boba too! It’s been so long before I started making it that I had some.
Me too!! I recently got Book of the Month and I’m trying so hard to read them in that month! I got 3.. two months in a row and I’m like 2 behind now. Haha! I really need to try and make some!!
Haha yes it’s so hard! I had BOTM for a while and when I would get more than one I had a hard time getting to them all in one month!

Two books is pretty good! I’m sure you’ll catch up in no time. 🙂
