Happy Wednesday, everyone!
This week has been a bit of a diversion from the TBR that I planned this month, but I’m still on track! Right now I’m primarily reading some buddy reads as well as the last of my library holds for this month (I think), and then after that, I’ll be finishing out the month with my book club reads and the last of my TBR picks from my physical TBR. Here’s what it looks like now:
Currently Reading:
Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
Klara and the Sun is a story that follows Klara, an Artificial Friend. She spends her days in the store watching those who browse, as well as observing those who pass on the streets outside. She hopes that someday, someone will choose her.
I think I will be close to finishing this book either today or tomorrow! I’m enjoying the setup of this book so far, although I do wish there were more explanations to the society that was founded. But at the same time, I’m liking being able to see everything from Klara’s perspective.
Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi
Before the Coffee Gets Cold takes place in a small cafe in Japan that has been serving coffee for over a hundred years, plus the opportunity to travel to the past. The story follows four characters who take up the cafe’s orders. However, the cafe works under several conditions: customers must sit in the same seat, they must not leave the cafe, and they must return to the present before the coffee gets cold.
This book has been on my radar for some time now, and after finding out Emma from Words and Peace was reading it too she invited me to do a buddy read. I think I have to warm up to the main character so far, but otherwise, I’m enjoying the premise and the mystery of the cafe itself!
Last Call by Elon Green
Last Call tells the true story of The Last Call killer, a serial killer in New York City in the 80’s and 90’s whose victims were gay men. He had all of the traits resembling even the most notorious serial killers, but because of the sexual orientation of his victims and the high murder rates at the time, the crimes he committed were nearly forgotten. Last Call details both the decades-long search for the killer, and tells the story of the victims and the community that surrounded them.
I’m not too far into this book yet, so I can’t really say much on it so far. This is a recent release and I believe I’ve heard about this in the past, so I wanted to learn more.
Recently Read:
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
This story follows Adeleine LaRue, who makes a bargain with the devil in order to flee her arranged marriage. As a result, she will live forever, and she is immediately forgotten by everyone she meets. But one day, 300 years later, she finds a man in a New York City bookstore that remembers her name.
I really, really enjoyed this book and the writing was stunning throughout. I had some issues with it regarding the setup of Addie’s story as well as some of the historical context in general, which has made this kind of difficult to rate given how much I enjoyed the story. I didn’t think I was going to read this when it came out but then the hype got me, and I’m really happy I read it.
Vicious by V.E. Schwab
Vicious follows Victor and Eli, two college roommates, whose research into the supernatural one day goes terribly wrong. Ten years later, Victor is out of prison, looking to catch up with his friend-turned-enemy. Meanwhile, Eli is set out to eradicate every person with a superpower, aside from him and his sidekick. With both Victor and Eli set on a course for revenge, who will come out on top?
This book was such a page-turner! I loved the action in this book and the characters’ stories, despite them being morally gray at best. Again, there was a bit more of background I wanted with this book, but I really enjoyed this one and can’t wait to get to Vengeful.
Marketing Automation Unleashed by Casey Cheshire
Marketing Automation Unleashed provides strategy to marketing automation and its heavy impact on business today. Using the “Cheshire Success Index,” Cheshire shows how to build a successful marketing automation strategy under Foundational, Growth, Alignment, and Optimization phases.
This book was very kindly gifted to me (thank you!) from someone in my network. I’m going through a bit of a career pivot at the moment, and this book was really helpful to understand what that might look like in the near future.
Up Next:
These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong
These Violent Delights is a Romeo and Juliet retelling that takes place in 1926 Shanghai. It follows Juliette Cai, a former flapper who resumes her role as heir of the Scarlet Gang. Their only rivals are the White Flowers, whose heir, Roma Montagov, was Juliette’s first love and betrayal. But as both gangs become unstable and the death toll climbs, Juliette and Roma must put their grudges aside and work together before the city they compete for crumbles before their eyes.
I’m looking forward to finally starting this book! My book club I’m reading this with already started and they’re enjoying it so far, and from what I know about this book I think I’ll really enjoy it too.

Thank you! I think it’s starting to – I’m looking forward to meeting the other characters!
I keep pushing off Addie LaRue, I don’t know why. I have it on my Kindle but keep finding other books to read, maybe because I’ve read mixed reviews.
I think it depends on what you like in a book! It is slower-paced and some elements that people would have liked to see in the book as well.
Oh my gosh, I can’t wait to see your thoughts on These Violent Delights! Thats been so high on my TBR for so long but I (annoyingly) still haven’t gotten to it!!!
Thank you! I can’t wait to finally start reading it. My book club has been so excited reading it so far and I can’t wait to catch up to them!
I love the cover of These Violent Delights. Hope it’s a good retelling 🙂
