Happy Wednesday, everyone!
Where I live the weather has been absolutely lovely lately, so I’m hoping to spend lots of time outside where I can! I’m a big fan of reading outside, so I hope that will happen this week.
In terms of what I’ve been reading, I’m actually in the middle of three books. Usually, I do two if I want to read multiple books at once, so this is definitely different! This is what this week looks like for me:
Currently Reading:
Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
Klara and the Sun is a story that follows Klara, an Artificial Friend. She spends her days in the store watching those who browse, as well as observing those who pass on the streets outside. She hopes that someday, someone will choose her.
The synopsis of this book is pretty brief, so I wasn’t too sure what to expect from it. I am enjoying it so far though – I’m so curious about the dystopian element of this book and I’m looking forward to seeing how that will be revealed over the course of the story.
Vicious by V.E. Schwab
Vicious follows Victor and Eli, two college roommates, whose research into the supernatural one day goes terribly wrong. Ten years later, Victor is out of prison, looking to catch up with his friend-turned-enemy. Meanwhile, Eli is set out to eradicate every person with a superpower, aside from him and his sidekick. With both Victor and Eli set on a course for revenge, who will come out on top?
I just started a buddy read of this book so I’m not too far into it yet. I’m definitely hooked from the first chapter though! Vicious has been on my radar for a while now, so I’m happy to finally be giving it a try.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
This story follows Adeleine LaRue, who makes a bargain with the devil in order to flee her arranged marriage. As a result, she will live forever, and she is immediately forgotten by everyone she meets. But one day, 300 years later, she finds a man in a New York City bookstore that remembers her name.
So this was a bit of a last-minute reading decision! Addie wasn’t on my TBR, but since it came out my interest in reading it has been growing. I love the way that it’s written – I’m definitely taking my time reading it.
Recently Read:
The Final Revival of Opal and Nev by Dawnie Walton
This book follows rock duo Opal Jewel and Neville Charles, and the story of their rise to fame. But a chain of disastorous events begins when a rival band under their label brandishes a Confederate flag at their concert; a constant reminder of the issues Opal will continue to face as a Black woman in the music industry. Decades later, music journalist S. Sunny Shelton has the oppportunity to write their oral history when a huge allegation threatens to change everything.
I feel like I don’t read books about music too often, but I really enjoyed this book! The characters and the amount of history the author put into this book made the characters feel so real. The author also took some different writing formats with this book and executed it so well! I’m glad I picked this book up.
Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers
Honey Girl follows Grace, who goes on a girls trip to Vegas after getting her PhD in astronomy. She’s a hard worker and a high acheiver, yet she doesn’t feel very fulfilled after completing her degree. She’s also the last person to think she would get drunk and marry a woman she just met, until she does just that. And after struggling with her father’s expectations and feelings of burnout, Grace flees to New York with her wife, only to face what she’s been running from all along.
I also don’t read contemporary romance often! I thought this was a really good read – I liked not only the romance but also the conversations about mental health, careers (especially as a WOC in STEM), burnout, and navigating your twenties. The only thing I would have liked was a longer, less quickly wrapped-up ending. Maybe after this, I will pick up contemporary romances more.
Up Next:
I don’t know, to be honest!
Usually, I like to have this all planned out. But between all of the book club, buddy reads, and other books I have this month, I may plan it as I finish my current reads. I am in the middle of three, after all, and don’t really want to continue with that! So I think I will hold off on deciding what to read next until I finish two of my current reads, which will probably be in a couple of days.

I didn’t realize Ishiguro had a new novel coming out this year. I haven’t loved all of his books I’ve read, but Klara and the Sun sounds really interesting. I’ll have to put a pin in it so I remember to check it out sometime. Have a great week!

Ooh yes, I hope you enjoy it! This is my first novel by him but I’d love to try his other books!
The Invisible Life is on my TBR too. I had for for s short time from the library but I could not fit it in to read. I can’t wait to hear what you think!
Thank you! It was a really good read!
I’ve had Addie LaRue on my TBR list for a while. Amazon actually had an oops a couple weeks back and offered the Kindle version for only a few bucks so I snapped it up because the hold list at the library is still ridiculous. And yay, your Like button is back! Happy reading!
Ooh, what a great deal! I never knew my Like button disappeared either! I’ve been noticing that on a few blogs, must be a bug I need to look at!
I have definitely just added Ishiguro’s new novel and Honey Girl to my ever-growing TBR. I regret that I have not read V.E. Schwab yet. I too am having a hard time planning my reads because of book clubs and readalongs. I guess it is a good problem to have though. 🙂 Hope you have a great week of reading! Thank you! I just started a bunch of book club and buddy read books as well and it’s very difficult to keep up with for sure!
I love books about music (one of my passions), so I am definitely reading Opal & Nev at some point in the future once it’s out!
Awesome! I hope you enjoy it!
Lots of great books on your list! I’m looking forward to reading Honey Girl and Klara and the Sun once my library brings them in!
here’s my WWW post
Thank you! I hope your library gets them in soon!
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Honey Girl and I hope both Addie and Vicious will be good ones for you! I love everything Schwab writes, although Addie is probably one of my absolute favorites by her. Happy reading!
Thank you! I think VE Schwab is becoming one of my favorite authors.
That makes me happy!
