Review

Reading Devonna made me realize how infrequently I read or see ghost stories lately, and I’d really like to change that! The start of this series came with a very unique premise and I’m curious to see where this story goes in the future.

There are so many layers to this story and I enjoyed watching them all slowly unravel. From each character’s backstory to how each plot point connects, there’s a lot to unpack with this novel. There were even several surprises along the way – I wasn’t expecting character backstories to connect into the plot the way that they did, so I was definitely in for a lot of unexpected, yet interesting surprises while reading Devonna.

Devonna is a very unique character as well. She can’t physically feel anything, and this is something that definitely impacted her throughout the years. This pulls into her overall story in many more ways than I would have expected.

I also really liked the way ghosts and the afterlife was explained in this book. There were a lot of intriguing elements regarding different kinds of spirits and their capabilities and the way Devonna was introduced to this world was so interesting to read about. I’d love to see even more about this in future installments of the series!

One thing I would have loved to see more were descriptive settings and backgrounds. Devonna has so many unique elements in its world and I’d love to see that explored even more. The nighttime scenes, especially in the graveyard, had such an eerie and spooky yet charming allure to it. I’d love to get that more in depth in future installments!

Overall, Devonna was a really cool and unique story. I’m looking forward to reading the author’s future works!
