I have a list of admin tasks in my planner that I save for when I have time to complete them. And lately, an overwhelming majority of those tasks that I’ve been neglecting have to do with the blog and the state of my shelves. Luckily, it looks like I have the opportunity to do so with #goodreadance2021! This challenge is hosted by Shealea @ Shut Up, Shealea and this round is running from September to the end of November. This challenge is an opportunity for participants to organize their reading, including their Goodreads shelves, physical shelves, reviews, and more. You can find out all of the details on Shealea’s blog.
Today I’m sharing which goals I’m working towards over the course over #goodreadance2021. I’ll also be wrapping up this challenge once it’s over with my results – stay tuned!
Goodreads Goals
I’m starting off this challenge with some Goodreads goals. My Goodreads at the moment is alright, but I do have a few things I’d like to do to improve it:
- Clear out want-to-read shelves. I have two TBR shelves on Goodreads – my physical TBR shelves, and a general TBR of books that I’m interested in. Culling my physical TBR is a perpetual work in progress, but I have semi-abandoned the want-to-read shelf. There’s still fewer than 100 books on there, but I know there’s some duplicates on there as well as a few books I’ve lost interest in.
- Create a translated shelf. One of my long-term goals is to read more translated books, so I think it would be nice to have a shelf of the ones I’ve read.
- Double check shelves for accuracy. A couple of times when going through my shelves I’ve noticed some books on the wrong shelves? Not sure what happened here, but I’d like to take a quick look.
- Add a Favorites Shelf. For some reason I never added books to my favorites shelf? I should probably do that.
- Re-write About Me Section. Because it’s been a while, and I just don’t like it.
- Add Ratings. I know that there are several ratings that I missed this year (and some books missing dates for some reason?) so I’ll be going back for those.
Physical Book Goals
There’s definitely some work I need to get done with my physical shelves too. Here’s what I have planned:
- Re-organize shelves. I’m starting to Tetris-stack my books on my shelves, so I think it’s time to organize them again. I organize my books by genre, so I need to shuffle things around to give certain genre more space.
- Unhhaul Books. As I organize my shelves, it will be time to let some books go. I don’t have many books in mind, but I know there’s a few.
- Review Physical TBR. I’m fairly certain I want to keep everything on my physical TBR – but it’s good to double-check, right?
Blog Goals
I’m going to take this opportunity to work on my blog, too. Here’s what I have planned:
- Fix formatting on mobile. I sincerely apologize to everyone that’s ever visited my blog on mobile ever. I guess you could say I’m a web developer, not a web designer. (I’m working on it though!) So I really need to fix that up, make a few tweaks here and there, and see how far I decide to take it!
- Redesign Sidebar. I dislike my sidebar. There’s a lot going on there and I feel like it needs just a little bit more whitespace? So I’m going to try and experiment with that too.
- Review Physical TBR. I’m fairly certain I want to keep everything on my physical TBR – but it’s good to double-check, right?
Reading Spreadsheet Goals
Last but not least, I need to update my reading spreadsheet – it’s been a few months! I’ve been missing my stats.
And here’s the current state of my Goodreads shelves – we’ll see how they look at the end!
Those are all of my goals for #goodreadance2021. Let me know if you decide to participate too. How do you like to organize your reading?

This is a wonderful challenge. I know my Goodreads’ lists need an overhaul. Look forward to seeing your progress with all your goals.
Thank you! I think this challenge will be really fun (and satisfying!)
Such great goals! I should probably clear out my goodreads shelves some time soon as well, although I did delete a lot of older books on my want-to-read shelf I know I will never read/don’t fit my reading taste anymore. Good luck with the challenge!
Thank you! It feels good to go through everything and tidy up!
