No matter what part of Instagram you’re part of, getting the right caption for your picture is often difficult! And on Bookstagram, while sharing your favorite book cover is more than enough to start a conversation, having engaging captions bring even more discussion to the table.

Before sharing a list of captions/questions that you can use for your Bookstagram, here are some general tips that I like to use when creating posts:

  • When taking pictures, use the book(s) you’re photographing for a starting point of conversation. For example, if I photograph my favorite book, I might ask my followers “What’s your favorite book?” and tell them why the book in the picture is my favorite.
  • If you plan pictures in advance, consider writing out captions in advance as well so you don’t have to come up with a caption right before posting.
  • When writing questions to your audience, be sure to answer your own question! It adds to the discussion and gives people more to comment about.
  • It might depend on what genres you / your audience reads, but if your caption is too specific, it might be harder for your followers to respond! For example, if you ask someone’s favorite book in the __ series, you may not see as much of a response if many people haven’t read the whole series. However, for those that do comment, you’ll might meet new people with similar reading tastes!
  • If you’re still stuck for a caption, you can always ask your audience about their current reads!

With these tips out of the way, here some ideas for captions that you can use on your Bookstragram!
