Can you believe it’s already the last day of September? For some reason I’m mentally still in August. Anyway, that means October is coming up, and I’m excited for all of the spooky reads I’m planning to dive into!

But for now, here’s everything I’ve been currently reading. I definitely had big reading weekend trying to catch up on what I wanted to read for this month. I hope your September was filled with amazing reads!

Currently Reading:

Forget this Ever Happened by Cassandra Rose Clarke

Claire isn’t happy to be spending her summer with her grandma in small town Indianola, but sooner than later, she discovers a remarkable creature. Even more remarkable is the fact that people who leave town seem to forget about the anomalies. And unless Claire can figure out what’s truly going on, she may never be able to leave.

I’m taking part in a blog tour with this book next week, and so far this book is so interesting! I love the way the supernatural elements are intertwined with the story. It’s definitely one where I want to keep reading each chapter, because every time we learn something new we have another question left to answer.

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

A Little Life follows four college classmates who move to New York. Over time they navigate complexities and their own relationships, but they find that Jude has been struggling and continues to suffer, defined by the unspeakable traumas that defined his childhood and his adult life.

I only just started this book, and I have a feeling I’ll be reading it for a while (in a good way!) There’s so much depth to this book, even in just the first 50 pages I’ve read, so I want to make sure I have enough time with it to fully absorb it.

Recently Read:

White Oleander by Janet Finch

White Oleander follows Ingrid, who was imprisoned for murder, and her daughter Astrid, who lives between many Los Angeles foster homes. As Astrid moves from one foster home to another, each one unique in its own challenges, she finds herself on a path to self-discovery.

Normally I’d have a review up by now as I read this over the weekend, but I’m not sure how to phrase my thoughts yet! I loved the writing of this book and I think this book really showed the issues within the foster care system. But there were some story elements that I think I need to think on more before I share my final thoughts!

Seven Devils by Laura Lam and Elizabeth May

Seven Devils is the first in a science-fiction duology. It follows seven resistance fighters and their mission to free the galaxy from the empire – and the roadblocks they face on the way there.

This story was really fun and interesting! And while I did love the characters as well, I do wish the character perspectives were more simplified in this book. There’s a combination of so many POVs as well as their own respective time jumps/timelines, and it’s hard to process that, especially at the beginning. But eventually, I got it!

Hurricane Season by Fernanda Melchor

When a small town outcast known as “The Witch” is found dead, speculation runs loose and investigations begin. Hurricane Season explores this small Mexican town and its villagers.

This book was very easily one of the most heaviest books I’ve read – I can’t say I’ve read anything like it. It’s definitely one of the more explicit books I’ve read as well, but I think that was done intentionally to show the reality of the villagers’ lives. I can’t believe how much was covered in this little book – it’s definitely one I want to return to.

Up Next:

Now That I’ve Found You by Kristina Forest

Evie Jones, living in her grandmother’s footsteps, is going to be Hollywood’s next big star. That is, until she ends up blacklisted. Evie Jones has a plan – a public appearance with her grandmother, Gigi, will save her status. But days before the plan comes to fruition, Gigi disappears. Milo, the last person who Evie thinks will help, joins her mission to help find Gigi. And in that process, Evie learns a lot about Gigi – and herself.

I haven’t been too big of a contemporary person lately, but I think this is one that I’ll still really like! I already read a sample of this book and I’m excited to read the rest.

That’s all for this week’s WWW Wednesday. Leave a comment if you participated this week too so I can read your post – or let me know what you’re currently reading below!
