So I ended up reading quite a bit this week, especially this weekend! I did the #FBC Readathon and ended up reading around 500 pages in that time. I also had a bit of a bookish weekend and traveled to two bookstores – the first time for me since lockdown. It was lovely to be back again (and you can even smell the pages with a mask on!), but that does also mean my physical TBR may have gotten a little big again. But I suppose that’s the cycle 😅
Anyway, here’s my reading progress for this week:
Currently Reading:
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
A Little Life follows four college classmates who move to New York. Over time they navigate complexities and their own relationships, but they find that Jude has been struggling and continues to suffer, defined by the unspeakable traumas that defined his childhood and his adult life.
I didn’t make much progress with this book this week. I want to take my time with this book, but at the same time, I’m probably taking a little too much time with it. I’d like to make much more progress reading this in the coming week.
The Threat Below by Jason Latshaw
Three hundred years ago, a terrifying event nearly devastated humanity; the survivors living in the mountains above the clouds. When their water supply is being poisoned, an expedition, including Icelyn Brathius, must face the monsters that destroyed most of civilization centuries ago.
The author reached out to me and sent the first and second book – thank you! I’m looking forward into delving into some fantasy, especially with the cooler weather coming. I haven’t gotten too far into this yet but I’m definitely ready for some fantasy books.
Recently Read:
Now That I’ve Found You by Kristina Forest
Evie Jones, living in her grandmother’s footsteps, is going to be Hollywood’s next big star. That is, until she ends up blacklisted. Evie Jones has a plan – a public appearance with her grandmother, Gigi, will save her status. But days before the plan comes to fruition, Gigi disappears. Milo, the last person who Evie thinks will help, joins her mission to help find Gigi. And in that process, Evie learns a lot about Gigi – and herself.
This started out really fun, and while this was a fun read overall, it did lose its excitement in the middle a little bit. I ended up being way more invested in Milo than Evie! I also really liked the ending – it wasn’t what I expected, but in a good way!
White Oleander by Janet Finch
Grown follows Enchanted Jones, an aspiring singer spotted by legendary R&B singer Korey Fields during an audition. Fields appears to be Enchanted’s ticket to stardom – but this changes overnight. One morning, Enchanted wakes up with blood on her hands, and no memory of the previous night – and Korey Fields is dead.
I thought of this more as a mystery when I first found it, but I immediately realized upon starting this just what kinds of topics this book is going to explore. I think this book was a little too fast-paced for the amount of serious subject matter that it covered, but I think it’s also important to have a book that covers situations like Enchanted’s be accessible to younger readers.
The Radium Girls by Kate Moore
Radium Girls is a non-fiction book that follows the events shortly after the discovery of radium. While the popular new element can be found in products everywhere, the women working with it in factories are beginning to fall ill. The women’s cries for help and the fight for worker’s rights are ignored, leading to one of the biggest scandals of the early 20th century.
My only disappointment with this book is that it stayed on my TBR for years! I couldn’t believe any of what I read in this book. What these women went through was terrible, and they fight they had seemed endless. The long-term damage that the factories caused as well as the impacts of these women’s work were fascinating to read as well – even if this was only featured in the epilogue.
Up Next:
Fangs by Sarah Andersen
First featured as a webcomic, Fangs is a graphic novel that features Elsie, a 300-year-old vampire that has never met her match. But one day, she meets Jimmy, a werewolf, in a bar. This book explores their love story and the conflicting interests between vampires and werewolves.
I’m really looking forward to transitioning into spookier reads for the second half of the month, and I think I’m going to kick that off with this one! I couldn’t help but peek at a few pages when I got this book and I think this is going to be really fun.
That’s all for this week’s WWW Wednesday. Leave a comment if you participated this week too so I can read your post – or let me know what you’re currently reading below!

Thank you! It was so exciting and lovely – I definitely missed being in them!
Radium Girls has been on my TBR for forever as well. I actually really enjoy non-fiction but haven’t read much lately. I heard The Little Life is super depressing – I’d be curious to know more of your thoughts once you finish! Also, can I just say how lovely your blog looks? I love your format and all of your icons 🙂
Thank you so much! ☺ I enjoy non-fiction too, but I find I don’t read as much of it during the warmer months? I’ve heard the same for A Little Life, so that worried me a bit going into it. Already there’s been very sad scenes, so I’m a bit worried but so far it’s a beautifully written book.
I loved White Oleander, the book and the movie.
Enjoy your week, and here’s MY WWW POST
Thank you! I need to check out the movie now.
I hope you enjoy reading Fangs! 🙂

Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy both of them. The Radium Girls was an incredible read.
Missed bookstores!
Yes! It was so nice going back to them.
Oooh Fangs sounds very cool! I’ve been eyeing Grown for a while because the cover is gorgeous and because her name is Enchanted, which is just awesome. But.. so many books to readd.
My WWW post is here 🙂
So true! So many books and new releases it’s so hard to balance! I hope you do get a chance to read it!
