So I’ve never really been much of a TV watcher, nor have I watched many movies. I know that this is a bit of a strange thing, but I always have a hard time focusing and relaxing when watching TV. Whenever I do try to sit down and watch something, if I’m not multitasking, I don’t last very long.

And while we’re all in isolation, I figured now would be a good time (especially on rainy nights) to catch up on some TV. I also haven’t watched any TV during this whole time and I just feel like that is super weird.

So I figured what better place to start than some book to movie/TV adaptations, right? There’s so many adaptations loved across the book community that I’d love to finally watch. There are also some new-ish ones out there and I’d love to be a part of the discussion.

I made a list in my journal of some adaptations I want to watch now or eventually. A couple of these aren’t out yet, but I still wanted to list them. There’s also a couple that I won’t watch until I finished the books, but again – I want to take note of them.

So here’s everything I have in v1 of my movie/TV adaptations list. Let me know if you’ve seen any of these!

Little Fires Everywhere

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

I read this book around this time a year ago and really liked it, so I’m curious to see what the series is like. I’ve only heard good things about the show as well, so I’m excited to start watching soon. I also just got Hulu a couple days ago, so this might be one of the first I start watching.

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

I read this book for the first time late last year, and it was a part of a phase where I read a ton of dystopian books. This is another recent-ish adaptation on Hulu, so I’m also able to watch this one pretty soon. While The Testaments didn’t exactly live up to my expectations (read my review on my blog here), I find myself wanting more of this world.

The Handmaid's Tale

Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle

I’ve actually watched the first couple of episodes of Sherlock a long time ago, but I do want to revisit it. And I don’t know how closely tied the series are to the books, but knowing me I definitely want to finish the series before watching any kind of adaptation. So I’m not sure I’ll watch this one for a while, but we’ll see how quickly I finish all the books.

The Grisha Trilogy / Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

This is one that’s not out yet, but the hype for it is real! I’m actually not done with Crooked Kingdom, nor do I know exactly what’s going to be covered in the adaptation. But I do have plenty of time to finish reading before then, so I’m not too concerned about it. I’m looking forward to watching this when it comes out along with the rest of the community!

Little Women

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

I originally wanted to watch the new adaptation for Little Women when it came out. Obviously, I didn’t do that. But in that time I’ve had a few people tell me to watch one of the older adaptations, so I may do that first. What do you think? Did you like the newest adaption if you watched it?

Dune by Frank Herbert

I read this sci-fi classic around this time last year. And a few months ago I also heard that it’s getting a new movie adaptation! I enjoy sci-fi TV and movies most of all (when I actually do watch TV) so I think this one would be good to watch when it comes out.

Dune
Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Jane Eyre is one of my absolute favorite classics, so I’m looking forward to watching movie adaptations for it. I’ve noticed when having discussions on Bookstagram that watchers of classic movie adaptations know their adaptations really well – especially for the Austen films! And given that this is one of my favorites I’d love to eventually watch all of the versions I can find.

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

This is another favorite classic of mine, and I’d love to revisit it, so why not in its movie form? I’m curious to see how this story in particular was adapted, and whether they capture the elements of storytelling that I loved when I first read it.

Anna Karenina

The Expanse by James S.A. Corey

This is actually a series where I heard of the TV adaptation first, then decided to read the book so I could watch it. However, that won’t happen for a while, for sure – I’m almost halfway through ther series, and the books are generally 500-600 pages each. But I’m enjoying the series and I’m looking forward to getting started on the TV series as soon as I’m done reading all the books. Again, as someone who loves sci-fi TV the most I think this will be a good series to watch.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

So I wasn’t actually in love with Pride and Prejudice when I first read it – and I wish that weren’t the case! So I want to give it another chance, this time in movie form. And that’s on top of me starting to read the other Austens, so perhaps I’ll watch the adaptations for those when I’m done as well. And I know there are a ton of adaptations of this book, so if you’re a Pride and Prejudice move expert (or watched one you really liked), let me know!

Pride and Prejudice

That’s everything on my list (for now)! I’m sure I’ll be adding to it as time goes on.

How about you? Have you watched any of these adaptations, or are there any that you’re looking forward to watching that I didn’t mention? Let me know!
